It is said that the world of Ilyrium was formed from the union of two deities adrift in the cosmos – that of the Imperial Father and the benevolent Goddess Risa. Its creation brought too the advent of Magick – a commodity as volatile as it was wondrous. Under the divine care of their patrons, civilizations rose, grew and thrived. But deep within the bowels of Ilyrium, a dark seed began to stir and take root.
Scholars later named the being the Bane, and while his existence remains shrouded in shadow, it is common knowledge that his coming heralded the end of the harmony enjoyed by the fledgling world. Erupting from the seas in a tumult of fire and blood, the Bane brought with him all that the deities had attempted to stifle: hordes of demons, disease, pain, hatred and death.
Not to be challenged, however, the Father and the Goddess rose against the Bane, their primitive nations at their backs. The conflict raged for decades, wrought with grief and suffering. When the dust finally settled little remained. The Bane, miraculously, had vanished. But so too had Father and Goddess. Void of guidance and rife with decay and famine, Ilyrium was left to fend for itself.
Over 1,000 years later and still recovering, tensions are running higher than ever. Aderyn, the imperial superpower, is in conflict with its sister country, Rhianu. New threats emerge overseas every day from the war tribes of Damasté. But worse still, news from the Black Isle – the site of the Bane’s emergence – is dire. Rumours abound of a Bane Reborn, and a second assault will mean the end of everything.
In a world of Magick and chaos, a world of rebels, mages and heroes both resplendent and corrupt, with a power that is tremulous at best, how can Ilyrium hope to stand against the Bane when it cannot even stand united?
Ilyrium. Only the Brave.
